Comfortably Numb
Hello,Is there anybody in there
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone at home
Come on now
I hear you're feeling down
I can ease your pain
And get you on your feet again
Relax
I'll need some information first
Just the basic facts
Can you show me where it hurts
There is no pain, you are receding
A distant ship smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain, you would not understand
This is not how I am
I have become comfortably numb
O.K.
Just a little pin prick
There'll be no more aaaaaaaah!
But you may feel a little sick
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working, good
That'll keep you going through the show
Come on it's time to go.
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown
The dream is gone
And I have become
Comfortably numb.
Pink Floyd
My iTunes was on random. Somehow, when I heard this song this time around, something hit me. The words "Comfortably Numb" shot out at me. Why, exactly? I'm not very sure but don't you get those moments where you push everything aside 'cause you'd prefer to stay behind the wall and leave your emotions be? Have you ever gotten a moment where you just don't feel connected with the world 'cause you don't want to or you're just not letting yourself do so?
I'm guilty of that. I can remember many times where I have lashed out all my emotions. Yet I have had times where feeling the emotion was too scary that I had to push it away, detach myself. It's difficult. It's been so easy at home where the established group of friends and the family members are people you can just throw yourself at and know that you will be caught. Know that if you ever need to get back to reality, it'd be them. Know that they have enough strength to hold you up when you fall.
But it's not so easy in a new place.
I have felt detached. I have felt like I'm not really there. Felt like I cannot let people step past the wall I have set up.
The album, by Pink Floyd, "The Wall" literally speaks of this kind of wall. The wall I have tried to explain to people about. Perhaps his wall is a whole lot higher and a whole lot more complicated but it just struck me that he actually spoke of "a wall" in the sense I have always seen in my head. See it now http://www.thewallanalysis.com/numb.html ; http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=1697
Then again, everyone feels pain. So, I continue to bottle my petty worries away.
